I wrote Stolen Goods for a competition in which it was stipulated that the piece should have some connection to Beethoven. I had a great deal of fun finding motives in Beethoven string quartets that I could use as is, or manipulate in various manners, such as inverting intervals, writing in retrograde or changing the rhythms. It turned out to be quite a
jazzy piece.
