Why a Cello Competition in Lucca named after Luigi Boccherini? The association between the name of Lucca’s most famous cellist and his city of birth is quite evident and honouring it with a Competition in 2023, thus celebrating the 280th anniversary of the musician and composer’s birth, would be a great goal for us and a fitting tribute. The new Competition represents an important occasion to reaffirm the importance of the figure of Luigi Boccherini and wants to establish itself as an event of international importance and prestige, with the aim of giving musicians a real chance to aspire to the highest achievement of the classical musical discipline: the soloist role.
