Anna Kull International Cello Competition
Overview
The International Cello Competition “Anna Kull“ will take place for the first time from February 10-22, 2020 in three age groups (born 2000-2006). Coaching and feedback sessions with our jurors – Julian Arp, David Geringas, Monika Leskovar, Milos Mlejnik, Gergely Mohl, Ditta Rohmann & Wen-Sinn Yang – will build an essential feature of the Competition. In addition, the prizewinners will have the tremendous opportunity to perform together with the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra in Austria’s second largest opera house, the Oper Graz in a gala concert. During the competition period, the much-celebrated Cello Duello with Jens Peter Maintz and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt will be our guest to make the Competition an event with lingering effects.
The central theme of the Competition – suonare cantante (when an instrument is played in a singing style) – should play a dominant role and establishes the connection to Swiss cellist Anna Kull. She played a benefit concert in Graz in 1877 and was praised by the press for her beautiful, rich sound and elegant way of playing.
Application is open until November 14, 2019 – “early birds” who apply until October 31, 2019 will only need to pay a reduced application fee. Find more information about the Competition, the conditions of participation and the application form online at stringcompetition-kug.at.
