  • Doctor’s visits are sometimes needed, but doctors are unable to solve bad cello habits that can lead to tendonitis.
  • We have less left hand agility, virtuosity, and power when the hand is tight.
  • All fingers can be in playing position, but only the one playing should be in playing tension.
  • Mentally focus on releasing the unused fingers.
  • Use of arm weight to hold string down allows thumb to not squeeze up.

I am so opposed to the set hand... it is the greatest enemy of freedom... What we want... is a feeling of release, of letting the fingers go. Most sour intonation... comes because they attempt to keep as many fingers as possible down.
