Marika Hughes, granddaughter of Emanuel Feuermann, shares a humorous anecdote about the filming of these iconic performances. During the shooting, he became self-conscious of his tendency to “suck in his cheeks,” which he said made him look like a fish, a quirk his wife Eva, Marika’s grandmother, also noted. He became preoccupied with stopping it which is the reason he is playing with such a still head and limited body motion. Marika reflects on how this film is the only footage of Feuermann playing so that is how the world remembers him, but that according to family accounts, he generally moved when playing.
