Schubert: Introduction, Theme and Variations, Op. 82, #2, arr. Piatigorsky

This arrangement for cello and piano by Gregor Piatigorsky helped bring this work to prominence in the 20th century. Originally published in 1860 as Op. 82, No. 2 , Variations on an Original Theme for Piano 4-Hands, it was later deemed spurious by Gustav Nottebohm, a noted cataloger of Beethoven and Schubert’s works. Regardless of its original authorship, this is a beautiful arrangement by Piatigorsky and a spectacular performance displaying his legendary down-bow spiccato in the final variation.
